Holy Cross Lutheran Church is a Christ-centered family of faith gathered for worship, spiritual growth, and service to our Lord. We are located in Dakota Dunes, South Dakota, in the tri-state region of Sioux City, Iowa. Members also come from the nearby South Dakota communities of North Sioux City, McCook Lake, Jefferson, and Elk Point, as well as from Iowa and Nebraska.  Holy Cross is a member congregation of the Lutheran Church–Missouri Synod.
Holy Cross is a growing congregation, founded as a new mission in 1995 as part of the newly established master-planned community of Dakota Dunes.  The initial phase of our building, now the Educational Wing and Fellowship Hall, was constructed in 1998.  Attendance has more than doubled since 2003, and in 2007 we rejoiced to dedicate a beautiful new Sanctuary to the glory of God.  We pray this visit to Holy Cross via the Internet is a blessing for you, and invite you to visit us soon in Dakota Dunes and consider becoming part of the Holy Cross family of faith.  You are always welcome in this house of God.

BIBLE CLASS ON THE SERMON ON THE MOUNT—Our current study in Adult Bible Class is on one of the most beloved portions of Scripture, Matthew chapters 5-7, commonly called the “The Sermon on the Mount.”  This is one of the longest continuous records of our Lord’s teaching in the Gospels (beautifully illustrated in our altar window).  Packed into this single sermon are such well-known verses as the Beatitudes (Matthew 5:3-12), “You are the light of the world” (Matthew 5:14), “Do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing” (Matthew 6:4), “See how the lilies of the field grow” (Matthew 6:28), “Knock and the door will be opened unto you” (Matthew 7:7), and the Lord’s Prayer (Matthew 6:9-13).  Join in Sundays at 10:30am in the Fellowship Hall as we delve into “The Sermon on the Mount.”
FINAL CHOIR SELECTION for the 2011-2012 season will be “The Lord Bless You and Keep You” for Confirmation Sunday on May 20. Thank you to all our choir members for your faithful service enriching our worship!
CONFIRMATION MAY 20—Confirmation and First Communion will take place on Sunday, May 20 during the 9:15am service. A reception for the confirmands will follow the service, sponsored by Holy Cross Women in Mission.
SATURDAY SUMMER SERVICE BEGINS JUNE 9—We are again holding a Saturday Summer Service this year during the months of June, July, and August, with the first service on Saturday, June 9. (There will not be a service on June 2 due to a wedding that evening.) The Saturday services will be at 5:30pm and will be a shortened version of the service for the following Sunday, with the same sermon. Holy Communion will be celebrated at this service each week.
SUMMER SERMON SERIES ON STAINED GLASS WINDOWS—We are very blessed to have some truly extraordinary stained-glass windows at Holy Cross. However, they are much more than just beautiful, they also are meaningful, conveying an important spiritual message. Beginning on Pentecost Sunday, May 29 and thru the end of July we will have a Summer Sermon Series on “Sermons in Stained Glass,” focusing on the meaning of the various stained-glass windows in our church. This includes not only the windows in our Sanctuary but also the very fine windows in the entryway of the Educational Wing. The final sermon in this series will feature the preliminary concept for the Holy Spirit window which will someday be added at the west front of the Sanctuary.
Easter Greetings from Rev. Dr. Matthew Harrison
President of The Lutheran Church–Missouri Synod
